The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) today called on the Department of Occupational Health and Safety (DOSH) to conduct an immediate investigation into three accidental deaths in the Klang valley recently.
Its Vice President, A. Balasubramaniam who is also the congress chairman for occupational health and safety committee, said DOSH should take stern action against the employers if they were found to be negligent.
In the first accident about a month ago a man was killed near Subang when a heavy object being lifted by a crane gave way and fell on the passing vehicle, in the second incident a lorry transporting heavy load overturned and killed a passing motorist while in the third, a foreign worker was killed when containers came crushing on him at the Westport.
Balasubramaniam said that in all three cases DOSH needed to ascertain whether the employers were negligent and did not take the necessary precaution or standard operating. He hoped that the investigations would be conducted speedily and culprits brought to justice.
