IPOH: A team from the Fire and Rescue Department rescued a mother and daughter who were clinging on for dear life in a flood incident at Dusun Sungai Meru here this afternoon.

Meru Fire and Rescue station chief Shahrudi Muhamad Halil said they received a call about the incident involving the victims aged 47 and 19 at around 6 pm before rushing to the scene.

"The team discovered the victims clinging onto the side of their Toyota Vios in an area engulfed in swift-flowing floodwaters nearly a metre deep.

"The firefighters used two rescue ropes and two rescuers used personal floating devices to move slowly according to the current, before reaching the victims.

"The victims were then secured with the floating devices and brought to safety. Both of them were safe and did not sustain any injuries,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

According to Shahrudi, the incident occurred following heavy rain this afternoon while the victims were heading home to Manjung from Kota Raja here after visiting some relatives.

The operation ended at around 7.19 pm, he added.
