In conjunction with the Chinese New Year festive season, popular public avenues in the city will be further brightened at night, with additional decorative lighting.
The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib, said the additional lighting would be put up at Bukit Bintang, Sungai Wang and Jalan Petaling to produce a more festive ambience, especially for shoppers.
"We have also identified a few other locations and will discuss with the officer in charge on the overall cost to purchase the decorative lights," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after closing an event involving an 18km-long cycling convoy comprising 500 participants, organised by the Wangsa Maju Federation of Residents' Associations here today.
Ahmad Phesal said, it had become a tradition for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to light up the city during festivals celebrated by the various races in the country.
"Incidentally, Kuala Lumpur has just celebrated the 39th Federal Territory Day, so the adornments, flags and buntings which are still there, can double as decorations for the Chinese New Year," he said.
