More than 300 mysterious objects which appeared like carvings of Borobodur temple of various colours were found on top of a rock in Tanjung Balau beach, near here on Wednesday.

The shocking discovery drew various reactions and speculations among residents and visitors including the possibility of a ritual offering to spirits.

Tanjung Balau Fisherman Museum assistant curator Muhammed Iqbal Rosli said the incident was discovered when he was accompanying a state government representative to the location.

He said the mysterious objects had indirectly affected the geological scenery at Tanjung Balau especially when museum was now in the process of gazetting the location as a historical site.

"We do not know who placed the objects and what ceremony or ritual was conducted.

"The museum has also not moved the objects as there too many of them and we do not want any untoward incidents. However the number is getting lesser after the objects were swept away by the tide," he said when met here Thursday.
