The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has urged Human Resources Ministry (MOHR) and the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia to provide solutions in solving issues between workers and employers post COVID-19.
MBM, in a statement today, said the council is also prepared to become a mediator between employer’s associations and workers’ unions to ensure a harmonious ecosystem between the two parties.
“If employers and employees could not reach an understanding, the society in general would lose hope in the existing platforms in seeking justice,” it said.
The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) and Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) were reported at loggerheads on occupational issues, with MEF stood by its right to retrench workers who failed to report for duty while MTUC stressed that under Section 15C (2) of the Employment Act 1955, the rule was not applicable for current situation.
The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) was also facing the same issue pertaining the inability of certain government departments to provide flexible working hours thus causing difficulty for couples as nurseries and schools were still closed.
Meanwhile, MBM special committee on economic action has opened complaint counters online at a href="https://bit.ly/36QRpYo"https://bit.ly/36QRpYo/a to youth who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The findings would be submitted to MOHR and related agencies for further action in a meeting between MBM and the ministry soon, the statement said. - BERNAMA
