The body of a man who was feared drowned after jumping into Sungai Sedili, here, in an attempt to save his boat which was being swept away by strong currents while fishing here yesterday, was found today.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the body of Azizi Amir, 45, was found by fishermen around 5.20pm today about a kilometre from where he was reported to have jumped into the river.
"The body has been taken to the Kota Tinggi Hospital," he said when contacted here today.
Earlier, it was reported that Azizi who was from Kampung Semayong, Sedili Besar, was believed to have jumped into the river shortly after realising that his boat was being swept off by swift currents while fishing with a friend at Jambatan Haji Mohd Lazim, Sedili Besar.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Azizi was launched yesterday and resumed again at 8am today, involving firefighters, police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Fisheries Department and local fishermen. - BERNAMA
