The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry is looking for the best solution following the court's decision on Caltex contract termination of its petrol stations' operators, said its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
He said the ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh had held a meeting with 14 of the petrol station operators and Caltex Malaysia on Aug 24.
However, Hamzah said, there were operators who did not attend the meeting but chose to hold a picket with a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
"The secretary-general holds the discussion to find the best way to ensure that no one will be affected by the court decision," he told reporters after witnessing the oath-taking ceremony of the corruption-free pledge involving about 500 of its staff here today.
On May 15, Caltex handed over the notice of termination and gave until the end of June to the operators to cease the operations of their petrol stations.
Following that, 15 operators took court action against Caltex but the Federal Court 's decision was in favour of Caltex and the operators had to pay RM300,000 in damages each to Caltex.
