MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam today extended Christmas greetings and said the festival was another occasion for Malaysians to come together in "our long-cherished racial unity and religious understanding".
"I would like to wish Merry Christmas to all Malaysians celebrating Christmas.
"May God's peace and joy reign in all the hearts of the families in Malaysia and let this be another occasion for all Malaysians to come together putting aside their religious and racial identities," he said.
He said Christmas was another occasion for Malaysians to host or attend open house, the unique Malaysian style of celebrating religious festivals.
Dr Subramaniam, who is the Health Minister, advised the people to eat in moderation during festivals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy eating was necessary in society during celebrations in a multi-culture country like Malaysia, he said.
"In this time of festivities, let us always bear in mind that our health is our greatest wealth.
"Let's focus on our health, by eating healthy food and moderately, as we celebrate Christmas and New Year," he said.
