The decision by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to merge the two Education Ministry entities, 'Kementerian Pelajaran dan Pengajian Tinggi' into 'Kementerian Pendidikan' reflected their open leadership, according to Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching.
"It showed that the Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Education Minister do respond to inputs and feedback from the public and the community," she told reporters after presenting prizes to winners of the Charity Cycling Challenge, here today.
She said the Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025) was another example of the top leadership's open attitude, in which public inputs and stakeholders' views were taken into consideration.
"It is indeed an innovation. Never before had the Education Ministry when preparing a plan, referred to the public for feedback. So it is not just 'our ministry's blueprint' but our nation's blueprint," she said.
On the significance of the merger, Yap said it presented a bigger picture of the ministry's scope and functions in education, from the process of teaching and learning at preschool right up to university.
