Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak has called for party delegates and members to unite in facing the upcoming general election.
He also urged members to not sabotage the party if they were not chosen as candidate as Najib stressed it was more important to develop the country for the sake of the people.
Echoing those words was Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin who said that Najib had reminded party members to lift up their spirits and performances and learn to accept any decision by not sabotaging the party.
"This is so that we can prove that Umno becomes the best choice in the next general election, as he (Najib) wants us to be more 'aggressive' to face voters," said Khairy.
"I think what was stressed by the president just now is in order to defend our position, we must attack. By attack it means that we must meet the people and tell them that our mission and vision are better than the Opposition's," said Khairy to reporters after Najib's closed-door briefing on Tuesday.
He said Najib has also reminded that the support from Umno and Barisan Nasional members alone is not enough as the party also needs support from Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), civil employees, youths as well as a united approach from all levels of people.
Former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz welcomed the speech made by Najib, describing it as "very important".
"Everything said by the president is important from sabotage issues, candidates to issues of unity," Rafidah said.
"We want to be a government not because we want to go to Putrajaya but because we want to become the government as there are many agendas concerning the people that needs to be implemented.
"This agenda is not over yet.We want to perfect the people's agenda," she added.
