A member of 'Mamak Gang' shot dead

A suspect believed to be a member of the ‘Mamak Gang’ was shot dead, while two others were arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in deliberately rammed several police cars at the intersection of Changkat Jering tol plaza here yesterday.
Perak chief police Datuk Osman Salleh said, in the 4.30pm incident, police was forced to open fire towards a Volkswagen Passat which the trio were travelling in.
“Police started firing at one of the men, aged 38, who died on the spot. Two other suspects, aged 31 and 35 were detained at the Taiping District police headquarters to assist investigation,” he said at a press conference here last night.
According to Osman, police had successfully exterminated the group following a report about a theft incident in Rasah, Negeri Sembilan about 11am, Friday.
He added that police had tracked down the car which the suspects were travelling in at the Changkat Jering toll plaza at 4.30pm yesterday.
“Police found five sets of car registration plates, two machetes and RM2,400,” he said.
Osman said that the gang was reportedly involved in a series of organised crimes in Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor which raked in RM2.4 million in loss.
Police have obtained a five-day remand order from the Magistrate's Court here against the two suspects.
A Bernama report, quoting Taiping district police chief ACP Harith Kam Abdullah said the order was
issued by Magistrate Noorhidayah Mohd Saad.
