The government has never set May 1 to 3 as the date for inter-state movements under the Movement Control Order (MCO) as previously reported.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that starting May 1, people who want to return from their village to the city can apply either through the Gerak Malaysia application or at the nearest police station.
Subsequent to that, he said, all inputs and information will be gathered and discussed to determine the appropriate standard operating procedure (SOP).
“Thank you to the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police), for although they have not met with the National Security Council (MKN), they have suggested some SOPs that I think are very good, but still need to be discussed with the MKN and MOH (Ministry of Health).
“After submitting the SOP, the proposal will be brought to the special ministerial meeting for approval. And once it is passed, movement can be made,” he said at a MCO daily press conference here today.
Commenting further, Ismail Sabri said the large-scale movements should be refined by taking into account several possibilities.
For example, he said, there are cases where one family has five members, but the rule does not allow five individuals to travel together in one vehicle.
Besides that, there are also cases of people without their own vehicles.
“Each car has only one driver. There are five family members. So, all those family members can go or not? It is not logical the head of the family wants to leave his family in the village.
“For cases of those without a vehicle, can a bus be rented? There are many things to discuss.
“This is something that needs to be discussed and as this issue is huge. In addition to the special morning ministerial meeting, it has to be brought to the special committee of the MKN chaired by the Prime Minister,” he added.
