Twenty-eight people have been arrested for obstructing civil servants in the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO), said Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the police has also opened 46 investigation papers on the failure of the members of the public to comply with the MCO directives.
"To date, 695 police reports have been lodged, 46 cases investigated and 28 people arrested," he said at a press conference here Tuesday.
He warned that the police would not only advise in the enforcement of the MCO but also take firm action against those who defy the order.
"Prior to this, I have reminded the people to avoid a situation where the police would have to take action.
"(But) what the government and the authorities are doing is to protect their own safety and of their family," he said.
In the meantime, he said, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would take stern action against those who spread fake news.
So far, 85 cases were being investigated while six others have been charged in court for spreading false news related to COVID-19.
"So, anyone who loves to spread fake news, share fake news, please stop doing so because the MCMC will take stern action against them," he added.
