The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the police, is carrying out investigation on Subang Member of Parliament R. Sivarasa, for allegedly uploading and sharing false contents on Facebook.
According to the MCMC, based on the complaint received, Sivarasa was said to have shared in his Facebook website the front page of the TIME magazine which was modified by placing the photograph of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with the caption No.2 Dalam Senarai Rasuah (No.2 In the Corrupt List) whereas the magazine had never published such a front page.
According to the MCMC, the recording of Sivarasa's conversation had been made at the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur yesterday (March 25).
"His handphone and sim card had also been checked and had gone through the process of forensics analysis," said the MCMC in its statement uploaded on the Commission's Facebook webpage today.
According to the MCMC, the investigation was carried out under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 which provided for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for not more than one year or both.
