The regulatory management of water in Sabah is "less than satisfactory", according to the 2015 Auditor-General's Report Series 2.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it was scrutinising the weaknesses in the practices, systems and procedures of the Sabah State Water Department (JANS) for the purpose of improving the work process specifically related to the procurement of infrastructure maintenance work.

"This effort is to seal the room and opportunities for corruption, irregularities and abuse of power in the implementation of JANS projects," the MACC said in a statement.

Last month, the MACC arrested the JANS director and deputy director and has so far seized more than RM114.5 million.

The Auditor-General's Report said the audit carried out between March 2016 and July 2016 found, among others, that the construction of dams had yet to be implemented pending engineering work. - BERNAMA
