A man died after he was attacked by a group men armed with parang and sticks near an entertainment centre in Jalan Kebun Teh early today.

The victim, Ong Kien Chong, 27, had earlier arrived at the entertainment centre at about 1am with his girlfriend and three friends.

Johor Baharu Selatan deputy police chief Supt Abdul Samad Salleh said an argument broke out when three men from a nearby table disturbed Ong's girlfriend.

"It continued until outside the premise where Ong was attacked by eight men armed with parang and sticks. The three men got help from five others," he told reporters here today.

As a result, Ong, a logistics employee with a private company in Perak and a friend suffered serious injury to the head and body.

Passers-by rushed them to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.However, Ong died at about 6.15am.

Abdul Samad said Ong's friend was still receiving treatment in Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The police are still tracking down those involved in the fight.
