Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria said Malaysians have confidence in the rule of law in the country.
He said this was evident from the number of judicial review applications filed with the courts, and added that 220 such applications were filed between January and October 2012 in the Kuala Lumpur court alone.
"If anything, this is clearly a positive indication of the public confidence in the rule of law in this country," he said on the topic of the 'Rule of Law and Judicial System' at the Integrity 2012 lecture held at the Integrity Institute Malaysia (IIM) yesterday.
He also said that public perception with regard to the independence of the judiciary could not be ignored because it reflected the measure of confidence that they had in the judiciary.
Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa and IIM president Datuk Dr Mohd Tap Salleh were among those who attended the lecture.
