An approximate of 1,000 Malaysian students currently pursuing their studies in Mansoura are reported safe following a car explosion which took place on Tuesday morning.

“They have been advised to adhere to the security guidelines issued by the Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo and the local authorities,” Wisma Putra said in a statement.

Meanwhile, it is currently coordinating with the Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo to monitor the situation closely.

“Malaysia is deeply concerned over the car explosion incident and regrets the unnecessary loss of lives in the incident and urges all involved parties to refrain from violence,” it said.

According to an earlier report, a car bomb tore through a police building in an Egyptian city early Tuesday, killing at least 14 people, an attack the authorities said was aimed at derailing the country's transition to democracy.
