Police arrested a construction worker and seized from him, drugs worth RM190,000 in a raid on an apartment in Batang Tiga, Klebang, here, at 2.30pm yesterday.

Malacca police chief, Datuk Chua Ghee Lye said inspection at the apartment found two bags and a box with 21 plastic packets suspected to contain 9.33 kg of heroin, 15 packets suspected to contain 200 gm of shabu and 500 suspected Erimin-5 pills.

"Police also seized cash of RM9,657 and a Perodua Myvi car during the raid," he told a news conference, here, today.

He said the drugs were suspected to have been brought from the Klang Valley and the 25-year-old man to have been actively distributing drugs for the past six months in and around Sungai Udang, Batang Tiga and Krubong, here.

The arrest was made after a public tip-off and three weeks of intelligence work by the Melaka Narcotics CID.

Chua said the man who was being remanded for seven days for further investigation, had four previous offences, namely theft, gang robbery, armed robbery and failing to attend the National Service Training Programme.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
