Low Yat Plaza riot: Situation under control - IGP

There is no fighting or riots at the Low Yat Plaza in the city early Monday morning and the situation is under control, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Abu Bakar.
"Do not believe rumours. Police are under control (of the situation)," he said in his Twitter after a riot broke out at the plaza after midnight, Sunday.
Khalid, on his Twitter also wrote that the members of the public should leave the matter to the police.

Khalid also said that police will arrest some individuals believed to be involved in the riot.

He also stressed that the incident was not racially-motivated. He also assured that action will be taken against the parties involved in the fight

"Police have arrested some of those involved in the fight last night and are tracking down the others. Let the police take action," he added.
The riot occurred early Monday morning after hundreds of people gathered at Low Yat Plaza to deliver an angry backlash against the arrest of a man, who was detained by the police after being involved in a fight at the plaza on Saturday.
The 22-year-old man after he was allegedly accused of stealing a mobile from a shop at the plaza.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa said police had detained three more individuals allegedly believed to be responsible in inciting anger with intention to provoke breach of peace.
Those detained were from 22 to 25 years old. He said they were detained after they tried to engage in provocative acts at a gathering outside the plaza.
"I assure that the police will carry out investigations which are transparent and fair to both parties.
"The public is advised not to listen, believe or spread rumours on social media. Rely on the police for information," he said.
