Shaik Hussein was detained at 2pm on Wednesday under the Sedition Act over the ruckus at Low Yat Plaza.
After controversial blogger Papa Gomo was arrested by police for allegedly publishing false and seditious information which led to the ruckus at Low Yat Plaza, Bagan UMNO division head Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin was also arrested today on the same charges.
Shaik Hussein, who is also Penang UMNO Public Complaints Bureau chairman, was detained at 2pm on Wednesday at the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters where he was supposed to give his statement regarding the incident.
He was then brought to Bukit Aman at around 4pm for further questioning.
“As far as I’m concerned, we have abided by the law. The police brought him to Bukit Aman for further questioning regarding the matter so let the police carry out their investigations,” said Penang UMNO secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.
“We came here because the police said they wanted to meet him. An instruction was then believed to have come from Bukit Aman to arrest him (Shaik Hussein) for investigations and to take him to Bukit Aman,” Musa said.
He said, the arrest was on the orders of Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to investigate Shaik Hussein under the Sedition Act.
Musa said, although he was taken aback with the arrest, the law must be abided and urged the police to also investigate who in the group had leaked the information.
“We also want to know who in this group who had leaked the information. This is the person who had incited hatred and action should be taken.
“We will also lodge a police report over the matter. Maybe Datuk Shaik Hussein will lodge a police report to defend himself and also for police to investigate how a private message in a group chat had been leaked,” he said.
