Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled on Friday officially handed over the Low Carbon Society Blueprint 2025 to five local authorities (PBT).
The local authorities are the Johor Baharu City Council (MBJB), Johor Baharu Tengah Municipal Council (MPJBT), Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu), Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (MPPG) and Pontian District Council (MDP).
According to a statement issued by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), the blueprint was handed over by Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat to each PBT president after the IRDA implementation committee and approval meeting Friday.
During the meeting, Mohamed Khaled also presented appreciation certificates to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar, who represented a group comprising Malaysians and Japanese for the low carbon society project.
The blueprint was launched by joint chairmen of IRDA, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Mohamed Khaled in Putrajaya on Dec 14.
In the statement, Mohamed Khaled said the handing over of the blueprint was to ensure the programme would be implemented effectively at the local level.
"The blueprint is to identify and give feedback on the surrounding features, economy and social, strength, potential and unique issues to the local authorities and their township area."
Meanwhile, IRDA chief executive Datuk Ismail Ibrahim said the plan not only emphasised on the development of low carbon and green economy, but was also in line with strategic development planned for each local authority to be carried out effectively.
Previously, the research on the blueprint involved various parties, including Japan International Cooperation Agency and Japan Science Technology Agency as the fund contributors under the sustainable development for cooperation in science and technology research, UTM, Kyoto University, Okayama University and Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies.
