"Let me be mediator for Najib and Tun M crisis" - Rahim

A special meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad must be held, to solve the crisis between them including on the national strategic investment company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

Federation of Malay Economic Bodies (Gabem) Chairman, Tan Sri Dr Rahim Tamby Chik said the special meeting will be the turning point for the prime minister and the former prime minister to reach a mutual understanding in an effort to strengthen unity among the Malays in the country.

“If it's going to happen, we have several UMNO veteran members who willing to help. I would like to volunteer to hold this historic meeting.

“The meeting should be held immediately whether in a formal setting or behind closed door. Let it be for a group of individuals to resolve this issue but most importantly it should be resolved immediately in order to bring the country to the right path before 2020," he said when contacted by Astro Awani here today.

On Tuesday, Najib said the alleged "bigger mess" Tun Mahathir has accused him of doing to the country is largely of the latter's own doing.

To this, Najib responded in the FAQ section of his blog (najibrazak.com) Tuesday, citing that the 'mess' is the result of Dr Mahathir's own doing following the series of attacks and the Opposition's 'lies' and 'slander'.

Najib said the allegations had been amplified through the Internet and this was something that Dr Mahathir did not have to face when he was in office.

Rahim stressed thaat Najib and Dr Mahathir should have the courage to resolve the issue amicably and to ensure the meeting takes place.

"We are aware that the crisis ha heightened and serious now, but if the two leaders are sincere to face each other, it will be a victory for all the people of this country.

"Najib and Dr Mahathir should be aware of their responsibilities and continue working together to enrich the harmony of the country. Many veteran UMNO leaders would like to see these two leaders to shake hands ahead of peace talks.

"Both leaders must set aside their personal feelings and interests. This matter involves the entire community and the maturity of both parties to ensure this meeting is going to be success," he said.
