Leech breeder charged with illegal offer of shares

A leech entrepreneur claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today, to a charge of offering shares in a leech breeding scheme without the approval of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) under
the Companies Act 1965.
Nazri Mamat, 38, of Kampung Pandan 1, allegedly offered the scheme to the public without the approval of a deed by CCM, at his premises,Restu Rimbunan Rahmat Sdn Bhd, at Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Kampung Pandan 1, in Kuantan.
He faces five years in prison or fine of RM100,000 or both upon conviction under Section 91(1) of the same Act.
Judge Mohd Azhar Othman set bail at RM5,000 with one surety.He also ordered the accused's passport to be impounded and fixed Dec 10 for hearing.
CCM prosecuting officer Lidia Fyrulliza Ishak prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented. Nazri's wife posted bail.
