The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) gave its assurance that there will be no shortage of controlled items by Hari Raya Puasa this year.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said, the ministry will ensure users get the supplies like sugar and cooking oil.

"We hope that people will not panic over this issue because there are sufficient supplies of the items. The only problem we have is on logistic where the transportation process might take awhile especially in Sabah and Sarawak considering the distance from one place to another is quite far," said Ahmad Bashah.

According to him, this situation is not at a critical level and transmission delays does not exceed two days.

“We have asked the enforcement department to review not only in Sabah and Sarawak, but also throughout the country to ensure there will be no shortage of controlled items come this Hari Raya," he said.

He added, KPDNKK will launch an operation on the controlled items prices across the country starting tomorrow to ensure sellers comply with the prices set by the government.

He said this at the opening of the 9th Malaysian International Festival of Branded Bedding Fair by Harvey Norman in Mutiara Damansara today.
