Persistent rains over the last four days have inundated several low-lying areas in Kota Kinabalu with waters as deep as 1.5 meters after Sungai Moyog broke its banks.

Most of the surrounding villages had been affected and several schools forced closed.

Students at SMK St Michael were ordered home when the water levels began to rise.

Several villages had also reportedly been cut off after roads were made impassable due to the rising waters.

Among the villages affected is Kampung Tanaki, Kampung Dabak, Kampung Babah, Kampung Sugut and Kampung Kibabaig.

Several boats and trucks have also been deployed by the Fire and Rescue Department to assist the flood victims.
