The claim by Sulu 'sultan' Jamalul Kiram III that his followers have set up a new base in the interiors of Sabah is baseless and is part of the terrorist group's attempt at causing fear.
"So far there is no truth to the claim. In fact that is part and parcel of their psyops or psywar. To discredit and create fear in our state, " Sabah police chief Datuk Hamza Taib told Astro Awani.
Hamza said that throughout one month plus Ops Daulat, security forces have managed to suppress the activities of the enemy.
"We managed to arrest and shot dead 70 terrorist. Arrest 183 under SOSMA and 334 for other offences," he said.
Hamza said that Sabah is now considered safe though there are still a "handful" of terrorists who could still be in the jungle or mingling with villagers.
"The enemies are still there. Numbers are very less.. maybe just a handful. Less than 10 less. That's why we have ESSCOM. We are fortifying our seas."
He said the authorities know how many landed in Kg Tanduo and how many left the state to return to Philippines. He said the Filipino authorities have intercepted 37 going back and is up to the country to decide on the legal action to take.
"But as far as the place is concerned It is safe" he said.
When asked if the supposed leader of the group Agbimuddin Kiram, is still within sight, Hamza said:"I cannot say for sure where he is but we will still looking for him.
