In conjunction with World AIDS Day, Karex Berhad raised over RM260,000 through a charity art auction held here on Thursday.
Themed ‘Arts Against AIDS’, the event is aimed at creating awareness and educate the public on the deadly disease.
Karex is no stranger in promoting the art as a medium to deliver critical messages to the public on the dangers of HIV and AIDS.
It’s CEO MK Goh said, apart from raising funds for a good cause, the auction also gave recognition to local artists while encouraging the public to have more open conversations on safe sex.
“It’s a very good platform for us to raise awareness in Malaysia on HIV and AIDS.
“We raised over RM260,000 where all of it will go to charity,” he told reporters here today.
The funds collected will be channelled to welfare organisations such as the PT Foundation, Pertubuhan Kesihatan Dan Kebajikan Umum Malaysia (PKKUM), the Kuala Lumpur AIDS Support Services Society and Rumah Wake.
Meanwhile activist Low Ngai Yuen has called for the younger generation to learn more about the risks relating to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
“The younger generation are exposed to many different things but they lack the proper guidance especially when it comes to sexual relationships.
“These are the conversations that are necessary today by parents, teachers, adults and peers,” she said.
World AIDS Day is celebrated annually on Dec. 1.
