Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari today advised Internet surfers to immediately report any activity inclined towards the spread of Syiah ideology on the social media.
He said the social media, including Facebook, was seen as a popular medium for certain movements to spread Syiah ideology that could erode the faith of Sunnah Muslims.
"We see a worrying trend in the spread of Syiah ideology because it has progressed from mere print publications such as magazines to the social media.
"Therefore, Internet surfers should report immediately to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) if they come across websites that spread Syiah teachings," he told reporters at the Mexico Independence Day reception, here.
Jailani said the ministry was prepared to cooperate with Jakim to monitor such activities so that the people would not be easily influenced by the ever aggressive Syiah movements to attract followers through the social media.
