The introduction of History of Wars in Malaysia as a subject in schools can nurture loyalty and patriotism among students, said senior director of the Institute of Executive Studies, National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM), Col (Rtd) Sofian Kamaruddin.

He said it can make them love and appreciate their own country.

"Malaysia is the only country who defeated the communists. Factors related to our war culture is very important and needs to be studied," he told Bernama after the Loyalty and Patriotism Symposium here, Wednesday.

Sofian also said war is history that should be learned and understood because war can change a nation's civilisation.

Also present during the event was UPNM vice-chancellor, Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.
