An Indonesian robber took a deadly gamble when he threatened two policemen with a toy pistol, following a hold-up at an internet outlet in Kepong on Sunday.

He had hoped to make a quick getaway, only to be shot dead by one of the policemen at the counter of the 'Internet Cafe' in Taman Fedeson.

The foreigner, believed to be an illegal immigrant and in his 20s, died on the spot in the 2pm incident. He had a gunshot wound in the chest.

The body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Sentul police chief ACP R. Munusamy said the Indonesian had earlier entered the internet outlet and whipping out a toy gun, held up a female staff.

He said, unknown to the robber, two police detectives in a patrol car had earlier, spotted him riding a motorcycle and heading towards the internet outlet.

"The man wore a black full-face helmet and his Suzuki RG motorcycle did not bear registration number plates.

"Suspecting something amiss, the policemen followed the rider into the internet outlet, only to find him training the 'firearm' at a female staff and demanding for money.

"The man was also taking money from the counter and placing it inside a sling cloth bag," Munusamy told Bernama here.

Munusamy said one of the policemen warned the Indonesian to drop the 'firearm' and surrender. However, the robber turned on the policemen before he was shot dead.
