A 41-year-old Indian national was found dead last night by a drain at the foot of the Desa Delima Flats in Bayan Baru, apparently after a fall from the ninth floor of the building, police said today.

North East District Police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said police detected a cut on the left wrist of S. Arumugam and found a blood-stained knife in the kitchen sink and blood stains in the living room of a unit of the flats on the ninth floor where he had lived.

Police also found a Penang Hospital outpatient card in his name and medication for diabetes at his flat, he added.

Arumugam's body, which was found at about 10 pm, was sent to the hospital for a post mortem, he said.
Gan said Arumugam had entered the country legally and lived alone as his wife was in India.

He said police had classified the case as sudden death.
