KHALID: We will fully cooperate with MACC on their investigation on police corruption.
Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar denied claims that officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had surrounded the Air Itam police station in Penang yesterday.
The Inspector-General of Police said MACC enforcement officers only came to the station to arrest several police personnel.
He called for the public to not believe rumours which are currently being circulated, claiming that the MACC had surrounded the police station.
"We (the police) will not compromise on anyone, including our own staff if they are involved in any wrongdoing, including corruption.
"We will provide full cooperation to the MACC in their effort to investigate this case," Khalid told newsmen after attending the Royal Malaysian Police's monthly assembly at Bukit Aman today.
Early yesterday, five cops including a female from the Air Itam police station was detained by the Penang MACC.
The male cops were made up of a corporal and three lance corporals while the female was a constable.
All of them were held to assist investigations pertaining to receiving an amount of money to settle a car theft case involving a man recently.
