Police have confirmed the identity of the man whose body was found under a bridge at KM8 of the East-West Highway (JRTB) last Sunday.

According to Gerik deputy police chief, DSP Jamalani Mohd Isa, the victim has been identified as Joevani Ahmed, 41-year-old.

Jamalani said, the victim's wife had confirmed the body to be her husband's via an identification process in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.

"We (the police) have contacted the victim's father and wife. The results of the identification process has been positive and the victim's wife has confirmed the body is her husband's," he told Astro AWANI on Wednesday.

Jamalani said further investigation by police revealed that the man had a past criminal record involving monetary fraud.

"We are not ruling out that the victim's death was connected to his past case. Investigations are still ongoing.

"Currently, we have yet to identify any suspects in his murder," he added.

On Tuesday, Astro AWANI reported that several photographers had stumbled upon a man's body under a bridge along the JRTB last Sunday.

The body was found face down, wearing only trousers and a belt. There was masking tape on his legs and wrists.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
