An 85-year-old grandmother was the oldest of the 13 victims who perished in the bus crash in Chiang Mai, Thailand yesterday.
Low Chee Lan was on holiday in Chiang Mai with five family members. She was accompanied by her second son, Tan Yang Soon, 64, and youngest daughter Tan Sui Heng, 54.
Yang Soon's eldest daughter Tan Thin Thin, 36, and Sui Heng's husband, Ker Boon Kwang, 57, and their daughter, Ker Shin Hui, 28, also came along.
Yang Soon and Shin Hui too lost their lives while Thin Thin, Sui Heng and Ker survived.
"Our family, particularly my sister (Yang Soon's wife) is still in shock over the tragedy.
"We hope to get the latest information on the situation from Yang Soon's two sons when they arrive in Chiangmai tonight," Lim Poh Teot told reporters when met here today.
Chiu Travel Sdn Bhd general manager Terence Yung also lost a relative Png Ee Ting, 23, who was the group.
He described Ee Ting as a "sweet and cheerful girl" who had been working with the company for five years.
"The last time I met her was two days ago before the trip to Chiang Mai during a briefing on the trip," he said.
Fifteen family members of the victims left for Bangkok at 1pm today on Thai Airways through Kuala Lumpur International Airport and then took the 5pm flight to Chiang Mai.
Yung said the 22 Malaysian victims would receive insurance worth up to RM100,000 per person.
He said Chiu Travel was working with the insurance company to assist the beneficiaries.
