Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the Government will still be standing after the Bersih 4.0 rally this weekend, but he feared that some Malaysians won't, on concerns that the rally will cause the ringgit to slide even further.
In his Twitter postings on Wednesday, the Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communications director also urged organisers to postpone the rally, saying Bersih 4.0 will bring more harm than benefit, especially in light of the global economic crisis.
He said the timing for the rally is bad as Malaysians are losing 'billions and jobs', and the immediate 'victim' will be Malaysia's economy.
"I urge #Bersih4 to postpone its demo. It will bring more harm to us than benefit, especially to the economy that Bersih wants to protect," he wrote.
Abdul Rahman, who is also the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, urged organisers to act more responsibly.
"Don't stoke the economic fire even more. Be responsible. Postpone it," he warned.
In his tweets, Abdul Rahman said Bersih should be wise, as this is the time for calm and composure, in light of the global economic meltdown.
He also criticised Bersih for not caring for the people during a time where the nation is facing global economic crisis.
"You do #Bersih4 at the height of global economic meltdown. How smart! Tq for making it even worse for everyone," Abdul Rahman wrote.
The police have categorised the Bersih 4.0 rally as illegal due to the organiser's failure to furnish permissions from premises owners to use their locations as rallying points.
Police say those who join the rally can face legal action under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
However, Bersih 2.0 chairperson, Maria Chin Abdullah said Bersih 4.0 will go ahead as planned despite being declined a permit.
Bersih 2.0 also rejected KL City Hall's suggestion to postpone the rally.

Nor doubt, Govt will still be standing after #Bersih4's protest. But if the demo causes ringgit to slide a pip or two, more Msians won't be!

We are facing global economic crisis and clearly #Bersih4 organizers don't care about the best interest of us Malaysians.

The immediate victim of #Bersih4 massive demo will be the economy. Then you as ordinary Malaysians. Then the politicians. In that order!

#Bersih4 should be wise. This is the time for calm and composure in light of the global economic meltdown. Even just for a few weeks.
