GOF seizes birds worth RM65,000 at Sungai Golok illegal jetty

PASIR MAS: The General Operation Force (GOF) confiscated a parrot estimated to be worth RM35,000, 10 sun parakeets valued at RM10,000 and four fighting cockerels worth RM20,000 at Sota illegal jetty in Jeram Perdah, here yesterday.
GOF Ninth Battalion commanding officer Supt Nor Azizan Yusof said while on patrol along the Sungai Golok riverbank, a GOF team detected a group of men who were unloading boxes and baskets from a boat.
Upon seeing the team, the men fled, leaving the boxes and baskets.
"The team found the birds and fighting cockerels inside the boxes and baskets which were estimated to be worth RM65,000," he said in a statement, today.
He said following the incident, a police report was lodged at the Jeram Perdah police station and the birds would be handed over to the Kelantan Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) for further investigation under Section 11 (1) of the MAQIS Act 2011.
