The MCA urged the people of Kajang to give MCA and Barisan Nasional (BN) an opportunity to serve them and not to continue believing the empty promises made by the opposition pact.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai drew attention to the fact that the people in the area were plagued with numerous problems, including roads, petty trading licenses and assessment rate.

In this regard, he said members of the MCA Central Committee were required to go to the Kajang State Assembly area everyday to survey, understand and help solve issues which the residents often faced and simultaneously restore the confidence in the party.

"The Kajang State Assembly by-election is the best opportunity for us to prove to the residents here, who are mostly Chinese, that we do fight for their welfare," he said when launching the MCA master operations room for the by-election at Taman Berjaya here, Sunday.

Liow stressed that the voters for the Kajang State Assembly by-election must pick a representative from BN to check the actions of the Selangor State Government under the opposition pact, which adversely affected the people.

The Kajang state seat fell vacant after incumbent Lee Chin Cheh from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) quit on January 27, to make way for PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest the seat.

The Election Commission had fixed March 11 for nomination and March 23, for polling.

According to Liow, Lee had promised the residents of Kajang to stay and serve the local populace but with the resignation, he not has not kept his promise to served but has also left Kajang for good.

Also present were Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, MCA deputy president Datuk Wee Ka Siong, vice-presidents Datuk Chua Tee Yong, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and Wanita chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie.
