KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has started the seat negotiation process ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said the negotiation process not only involved the PH component parties but also friendly parties who had the same basis of struggle.
He explained that the PH Presidential Council also considered the proposal submitted by the President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, to set up a shadow cabinet.
“The Presidential Council has decided on a number of things, including cooperation involving election work and the second is to start seat distribution negotiations especially involving parties in PH as well as considering seats with friendly parties.
"There is also a proposal from the UPKO president and this will be considered. At this stage, we will appoint a spokesperson for each ministry," he said in a virtual press conference today in conjunction with Parti Keadilan Rakyat's 2021 World Women's Day celebration.
Madius had previously said that the opposition would not have the opportunity to play an important role as lawmakers if the proposal submitted by him was not implemented immediately.
Asked whether PKR was ready to work with UMNO or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Anwar said the matter had not arisen at this time.
This was following UMNO's decision not to continue cooperation with Bersatu in GE15.
“Keadilan’s decision is to strengthen the machinery and getting the support of the people to reject tyranny and betrayal.
“That is our principle and we have strengthened it and started the election machinery in every state.
"The question of cooperating with any party has not arisen so far although it is clear that as a party we support reforms.
"Anyone who can accept the fact that we uphold good administration, good governance, reject corruption, reject all forms of irregularities and abuse of power and look after the people, Malay Bumiputeras and all ethnicities in our country, we will be together," he said.
