MARANG: Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang who is defending the Marang parliamentary seat (P037) is facing Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Jasmira Othman, Azhar Ab Shukur (Pakatan Harapan) and Dr Zarawi Sulong (Gerakan Tanah Air).
The four-cornered contest was confirmed by returning officer, Lizan Che Mat, at 10.40 am after the nomination process at the Marang District and Land Office ended at 10 am.
Lizan said no nominations were rejected, thus all four of them were confirmed to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Abdul Hadi had earlier submitted his nomination form at the nomination centre at 9 am, to defend the seat he had won for the previous three terms.
In addition to supporters and proposer for his candidacy, Abdul Hadi was also accompanied by Pas Vice President who is also Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
In GE14, Abdul Hadi won with a majority of 21,954 in a three-cornered clash involving BN and PH.
Even the pouring rain failed to deter thousands of Pas supporters, as did BN, GTA and PH supporters who supported their respective candidates.
