Residents living in the vicinity of Jalan Badak Mati, Sungai Bakap were left in shock when a paper bag containing a gift box bearing bombs was found in the compound of a house occupied by two women there on Saturday.
Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) police chief Supt Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said a resident realised the presence of a paper bag in the house compound which was near a storage area at about 11am.
"The resident informed the house tenants of the package before they discovered objects resembling bombs, and immediately informed the police," he told reporters at the scene.

"Checks found that two women in their 50s lived in the wooden house while the store was used to keep prayer paraphernalia.
"Three of the four bombs found were successfully detonated by the UPB from the state Police Headquarters (IPK) at about 4.18 pm, while the remaining bomb was taken to IPK for further investigations," he said.
Wan Hassan said investigations were ongoing to determine the motive, including to track down those who placed the bomb there.
"So far we do not know the real motive of the incident, it could either be due to debts or to intimidate someone there, investigations are ongoing," he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 3 of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1966.
