BUTTERWORTH: A former Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement personnel was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment and fined RM80,000 by the Sessions Court here today on eight counts of corruption.
Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid handed down the sentence on Hanisham Din, 50, after finding him guilty of the offence.
In the judgment, he said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution's case at the end of the defence case.
He was charged with eight counts under Section 16(a)(B)of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and eight alternative charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
Hanisham, who was brought to the court to face the charges on Aug 21, 2019, had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from MACC Azlan Basri, while the accused was represented by lawyer C.P Ang.
