Food stall in Siputeh exposed to poison

Food sold at a stall in Siputeh, Batu Gajah, which caused several people to suffer poisoning, has been confirmed to have been exposed to poison, said State Health, Public Transport, Non-Muslim Affairs, National Integration and New Village Committee chairman, Datuk Mah Hang Soon.

He said samples of the food had been sent to the Chemistry Department to determine the type of poison and how it spread to the food.

Besides the food, he said samples of the grass, spray containers and poisons located near the stall had also been sent to the Chemistry Department to be analysed.

"We have also taken other items as samples such as the knives, blood, ladles, cutting boards and several types of food such as the nasi lemak, desserts, sambal and water," he said in a press conference here Monday.

He added that as of noon yesterday, 84 people had been examined and given treatment in several hospitals.

Of that, six were warded at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here with three in the Intensive Care Unit.

Another five have been placed at the Batu Gajah Hospital, while another was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ipoh, he said.
