Police detained five men including a journalist and a university student on suspicion of producing and selling cookies laced with ganja (marijuana) at two houses in Bukit Antarabangsa here, on Tuesday.

Ampang Jaya District police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said the suspects, aged between 24 and 27, were picked up in two raids which began at 9pm after the police found slabs of ganja and the baked ''ganja cookies''.

"The raid on the first house led to the discovery of four slabs of what were believed to be ganja, three pieces of ''ganja cookies'' and a container of ganja powder.

"Subsequently, police raided the second house where the cookies were produced. Police found 34 pieces of cookies believed to have been laced with ganja (weighing 215gm in total) and a half-piece of big-sized ''ganja cookies'' (29gm)," he told a press conference at the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters here today.

According to Hamzah, all the suspects, including a permanent resident here, were still new to the selling of the illicit substances via the internet.

"They were still new in the business and based on our initial investigations, such a selling method had been the latest trend in selling ganja to buyers," he said, adding that all the suspects were tested positive for THC type of ganja.

The men were being remanded for seven days beginning yesterday to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
