Five charged over kidnap of money changer in Penang

The charge, under Section 3 (1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, provides a punishment with death or imprisonment for life, if found guilty.
Five men were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the abduction for ransom of a money changer.
However, no plea was recorded from T.Shasitaran, 32; M.Ashogan, 33; Muhamad Sultan Ahmad Kabil, 37; Ong San Chia, 31, and Yoh Shyh Ming, 27.
They were charged with the abduction of 60-year-old Hawazanajmi with intention to obtain ransom of RM3 million.
The offence was allegedly committed by the road side near Kristal Garden, Bayan Lepas here between 10.30 am and 10.45 am last Sept 28.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Fatin Hussin, who prosecuted, did not offer bail.

Lawyer A. Mattan represented Shasitaran, Ashogan and Muhamad Sultan, while Ong and Yoh were represented by lawyer Jason Khor.
