The promise to buy raya clothings upon returning from duty were the last words uttered by Major Yazmi Mohamed Yusof (RMAF), 39, to his eldest son Mikhail Adam Riaz, 11, before he died in a Royal Malaysian Air Force Hawk 108 crash in Chukai, Terengganu during a training session yesterday morning.
Mikhail, the eldest of six siblings, when met at the grounds of the Forensics Department of Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA), here, said he did not expect that the prayers together with the family after the pre-dawn meal early yesterday morning was the last moment the family would have with Major Yazmi.
"After the pre-dawn meal, we performed the 'subuh' prayers led by my father as usual when he returned to Kuantan. That was the last time I met my father before continuing to sleep.
"He did not leave any instruction nor did he show any strange behaviour except that he said he wanted to bring all our siblings to shop for clothings for Aidilfitri," he said.
He disclosed this when approached after receiving the visit of the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Two fighter pilots of Hawk 108 aircraft of the RMAF, Major Yazmi and Major Mohd Hasri Zahari TUDM, 31, were reported missing at the Pahang-Terengganu border at about 11.30 yesterday morning while on a training session.
Their remains were found 20 metres apart with the parachute still on in a swamp forest near Chukai, Kemaman about 53 kilometres from the Kuantan RMAF Base.
