JASIN: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is optimistic about achieving its RM11 million sales target for this year via direct sales from farms (JTDL).
Its director-general Datuk Zainal Abidin Yang Razalli said as of July, about RM7 million in sales were recorded nationwide involving 855 selected locations, offering five to 10 per cent discounts on goods.
"Besides benefiting the people to get food supplies directly from the farm at a lower price, it also allows about 15,000 entrepreneurs involved in agriculture under the guidance of FAMA to increase their income.
"The JTDL involves departments and agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) such as the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), selling a variety of essential goods such as fish, chicken, vegetables and fruits," he said.
He told this to reporters at the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sale programme (JMKM) hosted by FAMA and officiated by Deputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah.
Zainal Abidin said FAMA is committed to cooperating with other ministries to ensure national food security.
"FAMA strives to help the people through various methods and will help other departments find additional supplies in selected locations across the country to ensure that supplies are always sufficient," he said, adding that it will ensure that people will continue to obtain food supplies via farmer's markets and Agrobaazar Rakyat, among others.
