Ex-SMM chairperson Safwan Anang jailed for sedition

Former Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) chairperson Muhammad Safwan Anang@Talib, 24, was sentenced to 10 months jail after the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court found him guilty of seditioun.
Judge Norsharidah found Safwan guilty after uttering seditious words during a rally held on May 13, 2013.
Safwan was charged for uttering seditious words aimed at urging the public to change the government which was created based on law, through illegal methods, as reported by Malaysiakini.
He had allegedly committed the offence at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall at Number 1, Jalan Maharajalela, Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur between 8.55pm and 11.15 pm on May 13, 2013.
Safwan was charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
