KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Pokok Sena Prison which is scheduled to end on Saturday is extended for another 14 days until 7 November 2020.
Senior Minister (Defence), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it is to ensure that the COVID-19 chain is completely broken in Pokok Sena Prison, especially among staff.
He explained that it was done on the recommendation of the National Security Council (MKN) and the advice of the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
"The government has previously announced the implementation of EMCO in Pokok Sena Prison from 11 October 2020 to 24 October 2020.
"Screening done by the MOH until October 22, 2020 found there are still positive cases among the prisoners and prison staff," he said in a statement here, on Friday.
EMCO at Pokok Sena Prison, Kedah as well as six localities in Semporna and one locality in Kunak, Sabah were previously held from 11 to 24 October.
The implementation of EMCO in Pokok Sena Prison also involved staff quarters with 3,262 detainees and 587 staff while in Semporna and Kunak involved 35,643 residents.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the Enforcement Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has also made daily monitoring of 12 types of supply of goods in 736 business premises, including retailers (534), wholesalers (173) and manufacturers (29).
"Overall, the supply of essential goods is sufficient and able to meet the needs of the country which is continuous and easily available.
"KPDNEHP enforcement officers have also conducted 1,096 special RMCO SOP Compliance inspections and found 1,078 premises complying with the prescribed SOP while 18 premises were given advice for not complying with SOP," he explained.
