Dr Mahathir stands firm in his statement on hudud

Although urged to retract his comments, former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is determined in his stand of not agreeing with the implementation of the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II.

“My stand has never changed from before. Hudud is part of the Islamic syariah and it is good but can Muslims execute the Hudud law according to the religious need?” said Dr Mahathir in a press conference held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here on Thursday evening.

He added that he did not have faith in those who wished to implement the Hudud law as it is not about serving justice as required by the Islamic law.

“In the Al-Quran there are 43 sentences which speak about justice but the priority now is not about the justice of the law but more towards spoken words such as there should be four witnesses and the sentence given should be harsh.

“Although it is said that all those in Islam are brothers, there are also those who always put aside islamic teachings such as murder and other matters which are against Islamic teachings,” said Dr. Mahathir.

He added that in Islam justice should be prioratised and not the heavy sentence.

“If you want to chop off a person's hand it should be fair as there are Chinese and Indians in the country. If all Muslims who makes a mistake have their hands chopped-off and the non Muslims still have their hands, how can this be?” stressed Dr Mahathir.

Dr mahathir was met after the launch of the book ‘Saya, SPR dan Pilihan Raya’ written by former Election Commission (EC) Deputy Chairman, Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.

On Tuesday, the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) had called for Dr. Mahathir to retract his statement made on the implementation of the hudud law in Kelantan.

Perpaduan rakyat prasyarat ekonomi mampan

Tidak semua negara Islam mempunyai ruang dan kesempatan untuk terus aman dan damai, dan mempunyai peluang untuk menikmati ekonomi yang kukuh dan berkembang seperti Malaysia, tegas Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Beliau berkata, rakyat Malaysia perlu mempunyai tekad untuk memahami maksud dan keperluan perpaduan di kalangan mereka, serta kekuatan dalaman yang seterusnya dapat dijadikan tonggak untuk negara membuat langkah seterusnya.

Warga emas maut ditikam anak kandung yang berhalusinasi

Seorang pesara guru maut ditikam anak kandungnya sendiri di sebuah rumah dekat Kampung Senaling, di sini, petang Sabtu.

Menurut Ketua Polis Daerah Kuala Pilah, Superintendan Amran Mohd Ghani, siasatan awal mendapati warga emas berusia 65 tahun itu cuba memujuk anak lelakinya yang juga pemegang kad orang kurang upaya (OKU) mental yang dikatakan mahu membunuh diri.
